Responding to the threat from the nascent broadcast industry, the feature film industry responded with a series of new innovations creating the large-format experience. Technicolor 3-strip cameras were re-commissioned into VistaVision and Technirama formats, as well as the new Techniscope format for 3-D presentation.

Many of the great films of the 1950s availed themselves of these emerging formats as well as Technicolor color process number 5…thereby extending the life of IB dye-transfer printing for another two decades.
